Weighing Your Own Heart: A Seasonal Reflection in the Spirit of Ma'at

• Balance • Fall • Fall Rituals • Frankincense • Ma'at

As we transition from one season to the next, there’s no better time to pause and reflect on our internal burdens and the concepts of truth, balance, and accountability. Inspired by the wisdom of Ma’at, the ancient Egyptian goddess of truth, justice, and cosmic order, this practice invites you to weigh your heart and seek clarity.

Creating Your Sacred Space
Begin by setting up a small dish or scale on your altar. On one side, place a white feather—an emblem of purity and lightness. On the opposite side, gather stones, each representing the weights that you carry: a harsh word spoken, a broken promise, a long-held resentment. As you place each stone down, take a moment to name it aloud. This act of vocalizing your burdens serves not only as a release but a commitment to addressing them.

Enhancing Your Ritual
To further enrich your practice, burn frankincense and myrrh. Their smoke aids in creating an ambiance of clarity and encourages honest speaking—both to yourself and others. Surround your working area with stones to amplify your intention: blue lapis for truth-telling, hematite for grounded accountability, and clear quartz for unflinching sight. Each of these elements supports your journey towards a more balanced heart.

Sitting with Imbalance
Once your setup is complete, take a moment to sit with the feelings of imbalance. Resist the urge to rush to resolve everything at once. Instead, ask yourself: What would it take for my heart to feel lighter? Identify one repair—whether it's an apology, a promise kept, or a situation released—that you can commit to before the next seasonal shift.

Making Amends
As you carry out your chosen repair, envision removing the weight of one stone at a time from your scale. With each amendment, feel the feather slowly rising as your burdens diminish. The goal here is for the feather to eventually outweigh the stones, indicating that you are living in alignment with the principles of Ma’at—weightless and balanced.

Choose the Right Time
This reflective exercise is best conducted during an equinox or at the year's end, as nature herself is also in a state of transition. Embrace this opportunity for renewal and allow yourself to shed what no longer serves you. By weighing your heart, you embark on a journey of self-discovery and transformation. Let this be a reminder that living in truth and balance not only nurtures your spirit but also contributes to the greater harmony of the world around you. Embrace this sacred practice and watch as the burdens of yesterday lighten, making way for the joys of tomorrow.
